Location: This one of the oldest universities in India is located over vast area of land in sector 14 and sector 25. The Punjab University is a residential complex and there is a sports complex, a health center, hostels and residential places beside it.

Created: The Punjab University was established in 1882 at Lahore (belongs to Pakistani Punjab). The university lost its campus after the independence and worked with the make-shifted ones from different places of Punjab and Delhi. Under the guidance of the architect and planner Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret relocated the campus in Chandigarh. This university now an inter-state body which works in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh.

About the place: The University of Punjab is spread over 550 acres of land with its main administrative and academic buildings being located in the sector 14. There are about 75 teaching and research departments and about 15 centers for teaching and research at the main campus in Chandigarh. Spread across different states, it has 188 affiliated colleges under it. One of the landmarks of this university is the Gandhi Bhavan which is an auditorium hall in the middle of a water body. There is a mural created by Jeanneret at the entrance of this hall. There is another land mark in this University of Punjab which is the Student Center. It got started in 1975. It is now the office of the university Student’s council.One can enjoy the Punjabi foods at the cafeteria here and also enjoy the picturesque beauty around. There are 4 museums in this university and the museum of Fine Arts has the works of different artists from modern India.

How to reach:

By Road: The tourists could enjoy the beautiful journey from the adjoining cities to Chandigarh by taking the bus or taxi services which are plenty in numbers. The national highways no.21 and no.22 connects Chandigarh to the many important cities of the north India very well.

By Train: Chandigarh is well connected through the railways to the capital of India, New Delhi. There are two daily trains running between Chandigarh and New Delhi; the Himalyan Queen and the Shatabdi Express.

By Air: Chandigarh is well connected with the important cities of north India through the air as the domestic airport is only 12 km away from the center of the city.
